Tim White Sobieski has an innovative approach to art, utilizing digital mediums to skew and beautify images in unexpected and refreshing ways. Drawing inspiration from digital images and cinematic stills, Sobieski deconstructs reality and rearranges it in an artistic, painterly fashion.
Artist Statement
Tim White Sobieski is a painter and multimedia artist. He is widely recognized among contemporary artists in the fields of photography, video-making and light art. His work deals with history and philosophy subjects; his staged photographs often make references to dramatic world events of the past. His art has been featured in more than 30 exhibitions in museums and public spaces in the U.S. and Europe. He frequently participates in international film festivals; his art installations have been shown in curatorial programs of Bucharest Biennale; Prague Biennale; Photo Bienal Internacional de Tenerife, Spain; Photo España, Madrid, Lyon Biennale, France. In 2005 he was commissioned to design interior artwork installation for LVMH/Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris. The project resulted in the biggest up to date fiber-optics video field. In 2006 he made another project dedicated to LVMH company, commission and collection of Bernard Arnault. The project was shown in collaboration with Zaha Hadid and Shigeru Ban architects. In 2009 Tim White-Sobieski was commissioned to develop artwork for the main concourse at Kimpo airport, Seoul, Korea, which resulted in the artwork designed as video installation on 144 synchronized LCD monitors, currently the biggest video installation in the world. He currently resides most likely in JFK airport waiting for his next flight and next project.
