Artist Statement
George Condo is an American Contemporary artist who arrived in New York in the 1980s and became involved with members of Andy Warhol's Factory and collaborated with prominent members of the Beat Generation. A skilled draftsman, his prints investigate portraiture, cartoons, Surrealism, Pop art and abstraction which oftentimes inform his paintings and sculpture. His line etchings and drawings take inspiration from American caricature, European history portraits, and Greek mythological figures, often in a dark yet humorous style.
Condo has exhibited in the United States and in Europe, including exhibitions at The Whitney Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, The Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, The Guggenheim, The Albright-Knox Gallery, Tate Modern, and the Museu d'Art Contemporani in Barcelona.
